It’s late in the day and we haven’t much time to devote to this post, but we couldn’t let Jean Harlow‘s birthday pass without an acknowledgement.
Jean would have been 102 today, had she managed to stick around (she didn’t come close, alas—she died of uremic poisoning at the age of 26). And to remember her, we’re sharing a clip from one of our favorite of her pictures, Bombshell (1933).
In it, Harlow plays a movie star not unlike herself, with a grasping family that depends on her for food, clothing and shelter (not to mention life’s non-necessities) and a publicity agent who never saw a headline he didn’t like.
